Uncovering Termites, Dry Rot and Roof Damage in Sonoma County

On August 18, 2025, our team at Nature Pacific Pest Services conducted a wood-destroying organism pest inspection for a property in Sonoma County. The findings were extensive and serve as an important reminder of why regular inspections are crucial for protecting both the structure and safety of your home.
Pest-Related Findings
During the inspection, we discovered the presence of multiple wood-destroying organisms including:
Subterranean termites
Drywood termites
Surface fungus
Dry rot
Wood boring beetles
Additionally, we found an active leak in the crawlspace, as well as roof and flashing damage, which can worsen over time if not addressed promptly.
Recommended Solutions
To properly address these issues, we recommend the following:
Removal and replacement of all dry-rotted wood.
Full perimeter soil treatment for subterranean termites.
Fumigation to eliminate drywood termites and wood boring beetles.
Chemical treatment for surface fungus.
Installation of a vapor barrier in the crawlspace to manage moisture levels.
Replacement of damaged posts underneath the home.
Additional Observations

While our primary focus was on wood-destroying organisms, we also uncovered several non-pest-related concerns:
Outdated water heater showing signs of inefficiency and age.
Possible gas leak, which requires immediate attention.
Dead animals in the crawlspace, including a deceased raccoon that we removed.
Aging cast iron plumbing, which may soon need replacement.
Old tar and gravel roof, with loose gravel that compromises protection—modern roofing is highly recommended.
